Drilling point 5 or Drilling point 6 screws are designed for heavy duty applications penetrating over 12mm thick steel plate. The specialized drill tips can bore through thicker material. Flutes or shank slots help clear chips for faster drilling in thick metal. Lines on the threads serve the same purpose. The precisely cut non-walking drill tip engages thick steel quickly without wandering.
M5.5 (#12) is a common diameter, but other sizes are available. Length depends on material thickness. Washers, often EPDM rubber, are recommended for improved weather sealing.
Zinc plating and ruspert coatings provide corrosion protection and smooth driving. Slow drill speeds and adequate bit torque prevent screw head or steel damage during driving.
