Wafer heads are low profile and wide to distribute load, making them well-suited for attaching gypsum board to steel studs. The large bearing surface allows the head to sit flush with the gypsum board surface for a smooth finish. The drill point tip can penetrate thin sheet metal like roofing or siding and drill into steel frames, eliminating pre-drilling.
M4.8 (#10) is a common diameter, but other sizes are available. Length depends on material thickness.
Zinc plating, Yellow zinc plating, and Ruspert coating provide corrosion resistance and ease of driving.
Proper drill speed and bit size prevent damage to screw head or base material during driving. Slow speed/high torque is best. Wafer heads sit flush on gypsum board better than bugle or flat heads, reducing risk of tearing the paper surface. Engagement depth into steel structure is important to ensure proper pull-out strength.
